Production of groudnut crops

The highest productivity of groundnut (1604kg/ha) is in state of Tamil Nadu, while in Gujarat the productivity is about 1190/ha. In Gujarat, groundnut is grown in an about 20 lakh hectares area with area with total production of about 26 lakh tonnes annually.

Season

It has a 150-day growing cycle which makes it ideal for the local summer season, and ensure that harvesting can be completed before frost arrives if planned timeously. The crop is grown in rotation with Maize to improve disease, weed and pest management in both crops.

Steps

First, the peanut are planted and harvested.

Then, they are shelled and dry roasted. Next , they go through a cooling and blanching process which gets the nuts ready for grinding. Lastly, the peanuts are grinded and packaged into jars.

Environmental impact

Six categories of environmental impact

( i.e. global warming potential, acidification potential, terrestrial eutrophication potential ,depletion of social resources ,potassium resources and phosphate resources) were determined. The functional unit was assumed the production of 1 ton off peanut pod yield.
